For Meghan Trainor, it’s All About That Bass… for an orthodontist, it’s all about that compliance! When orthodontic elastic compliance is less than 100%, it can become impossible to achieve the ideal treatment results that we expect. The likelihood is high that at some point during a patient’s orthodontic experience, elastics will be required to complete bite correction. Elastics move the teeth in ways that braces alone cannot accomplish. In order to fully benefit from elastic wear, they should be worn 24/7. The downfall for many patients is that the elastics are removable, therefore they get removed, and sometimes, they don’t get replaced. [Read more…] about Orthodontic Elastic Compliance
It’s true… it happens at the end of every summer… members of our orthodontic family head off to college and we have to say goodbye. This summer was especially tough because we had to say goodbye to our former patient and longtime employee, Zoe M.
According to the ADA News, a publication of the American Dental Association, the number of women in dentistry has risen dramatically. In 1978, just four years before I entered Georgetown University School of Dentistry, 15.9% of all first year dental students were women. By 2016, it had risen to about 50%. During that same time, women practicing dentistry rose from 5% to about 25%. Those are some amazing numbers! [Read more…] about Women in Dentistry
Here at Dr. Remington’s orthodontic practice, we love seeing smiling faces, and we’re lucky enough to see them every day! Here are a few we’d like to share with you this week.
What is Emily T. smiling about, you may ask yourself? Is it because she’s enjoying her summer vacation? Possibly. Is it because she is taking home a giant cupcake after today’s visit? Probably. We consider ourselves lucky when we are asked to treat more than one member of the same family. Sometimes it’s mom or dad and the kids, sometimes we treat the siblings in turn from oldest to youngest, and sometimes we are lucky enough to treat two siblings at the same time. It’s great fun when we see them come in together! The majority of them do have a good time coming in together, although they may not enjoy being photographed together. The only time I see that sibling rivalry arise is when both of them are getting close to completion of their treatment and then the race is on… who will finish first??? We took a poll of everyone we saw today and the overwhelming response to the question, what did you do on your day off yesterday was, “I relaxed.” I think that’s an excellent response! Everyone is sooooo busy these days between office work, home work, school work, sports, and other activities, that I think a day to relax and take a deep breath from time to time is just what the doctor ordered! This week we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday. He was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement who is best known for fighting for civil rights using nonviolent methods.
