Retainers for Life!

Clearbow Retainer

I know, it sounds like you’ve been sentenced to solitary confinement in a maximum security prison, but it’s only retainers we’re talking about here..

What are retainers all about?

Retainers are designed to keep your teeth stable after the braces are removed.

Why do I need them?

Teeth are programmed to move forward throughout the course of your life, leading to a return of crowding.

How long do I need them?

That would be the “for life” part. [Read more…] about Retainers for Life!

Choosing Orthodontics as a Career

Orthodontic Career

I recently had a college student from UCONN visit my office to learn a little about what it’s like to be an orthodontist. Susannah Snider, in her article for US News & World Report, discusses a lot of valuable information about what it takes to become and orthodontist and what it’s like once you get there. We’ll review her findings below. [Read more…] about Choosing Orthodontics as a Career

Leave the Tooth Movement to the Experts

Stay away from DIY orthodontics

There are a lot of DIY videos these days on everything from jewelry making to furniture painting… unfortunately you may also run across some for DIY orthodontics. It seems very tempting to take care of things on your own and avoid those pesky braces, but let me explain why this is notÂrecommended. [Read more…] about Leave the Tooth Movement to the Experts

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Life With Braces

Those of you who enjoy old westerns, might immediately think of Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach, but this is orthodontics we’re talking about here… so this is all about Life With Braces.

The Good

I think that the good is self evident, but can be sometimes forgotten when you are deep in the throes of orthodontic treatment. The good is the result. Whether the braces are something that you chose to do, or had chosen for you, the result is something good. We will be taking your smile from a place where it was esthetically and functionally compromised, to a place where everything is in balance. This is definitely The Good. Adult Orthodontics

Remington-Orthodontics-of-Guilford-CT

Today I’m going to share different options for the orthodontic treatment of adults. In any orthodontic treatment, there is no such thing as one size fits all. An ideal treatment plan always takes into account your primary reason for seeking treatment as well as the current relationship of your teeth and jaws, so that the final plan is one that meets your goals while maintaining the oral health and integrity of your teeth and jaws. Orthodontic Emergencies… When Should I Panic?

Poking Wire with Wax

The good news is that the answer to that question is almost never. Now don’t get me wrong, things can happen that require attention, but in most instances, what is required is a modification to your next visit, not an immediate trip to the office.

The wires and brackets that make up your braces may occasionally loosen or break. Typically we see this in cases when foods that are hard or sticky have been eaten, or sports related injuries have occurred. If this happens, the first thing to remember is, DON’T PANIC! Broken brackets and wires happen from time to time. We understand this and are prepared to address it. In most instances, your next regularly scheduled appointment can be moved to accommodate the repair, it would simply need to be rescheduled to provide sufficient time for the correction.
