Congratulations!
You’ve just gotten the news that you are ready to have your braces removed. What happens next?
Let’s Talk About Retainers
Retainers maintain the beauty and function of your new smile by keeping your teeth in their new position long after the braces have been removed… they are recommended for a lifetime, in fact.
Remington Orthodontics utilizes three types of retainers; fixed (bonded) wires, removable plastic with a clear wire across the teeth, and removable clear trays. Each one will maintain your smile, and is chosen based on a unique set of circumstances for each patient.
By far, the most common type is the fixed (bonded) retainer. These attach directly to the back of the upper and lower front teeth. It is wonderful not to have to keep track of anything removable. They are always in and always doing their job. Aesthetically they cannot be beat and with regular brushing, flossing, and dental visits, will maintain your smile for years to come.
Both types of removable retainers may be used in situations where full coverage of the palate or the teeth is needed, or where oral hygiene is a significant concern. They must be worn as prescribed in order to be effective and require excellent compliance for smile maintenance.
Our goal is not only to provide you with a beautiful smile the day that your braces are removed, but to help you maintain that smile for a lifetime.
